Signs of Labor: How to Know When It’s Time
Labor usually begins with regular contractions that grow longer, stronger, and closer together, often accompanied by a bloody show or the water breaking. For first-time parents, the 5-1-1 rule is a helpful guide: head to the hospital when contractions are 5 minutes apart, last 1 minute, and have been that way for 1 hour. Always call your provider if you are unsure or notice any red flags.
